We believe a better city starts in our parks.

Our mission is to advocate for San Francisco’s parks and public spaces, educating residents and leaders in support of a diverse and thriving city.

In 2017, San Francisco became the first city in the country where every resident is within a 10-minute walk of a park. But what kind of park is within that 10-minute walk? Is it big enough for the community that uses it? Is it easy to get there? Does it provide the same joy, wonder, and peacefulness that our best parks do?

We’re on a mission to make sure the answer to each of those questions is one we’re all proud of.

San Franciscans love their parks. They’re gorgeous, good for our well-being, and beneficial to our communities. But not every San Franciscan has equal access to great parks and civic amenities. So we’re educating policymakers, engaging neighbors, and advocating for a flourishing and interconnected network of parks and public spaces. Together, we can provide every San Franciscan with easy access to all of the great public spaces throughout our city.

We’re envisioning a better city through better public spaces.

Here’s how we’re making that vision a reality.

Reimagining the Public Realm

Investing in public spaces in unexpected places, from tiled stairs to alleys to promenades

Equitable Park Access

Connecting San Franciscans in every neighborhood to their parks.

Removing the red tape blocking civic amenities like benches and bathrooms.

Permit Reform

What connects these issue areas is a call to invest in San Francisco’s public realm. We know the benefits of successful public spaces, and we want them to be more accessible, equitable, and enjoyable, in all of our neighborhoods.

Who We Are

Park lovers. Parents. Peak-climbers. Players. Pruners.

We’re San Franciscans passionate about making great parks and public spaces a fixture in the lives of every one of our neighbors.

That’s why we’ve joined together to create SF Parks Forward. We’re engaging neighbors and educating leaders to bolster our park system, expand the idea of what a successful public space can be, and ensure that our civic commons are well cared for and thriving.
